About TREATMENTS

PREGNANCY MASSAGE

Pregnancy is a special time, but it can be challenging and stressful dealing with all the new changes within your body, in your mind, and in your life.

I provide a relaxed safe space to process the changes in your body, quiet time out to nurture yourself and bond with the new life growing inside you or to talk through any concerns.

Massage may help to:

  • relieve aches & pains: back pain, headaches, joint pain

  • lower stress, anxiety & depression

  • improve mood

  • reduce swelling by improving lymphatic & blood circulation

  • increase uterine blood supply to enhance foetal health

  • improve sleep

  • provide support for the mother to be

Treatment

Treatment can take place during all three trimesters.

Treatments are unique for you and may include energy work to tune into and relax mother and baby especially during the first trimester, breathing/visualisations, exercise/postural awareness, stretches to help to relieve aches, bring awareness to the posture, and tone pelvic floor muscles.

I am always happy to listen and talk through your birth fears, previous birth trauma, birth plans, breastfeeding and getting you ready for babies arrival.

POST-NATAL MASSAGE

All of the focus has shifted now onto your new born baby, and it can be difficult to have any time for yourself. A massage may help to make you feel nurtured and supported during this life-shifting time. Mums often forget about their own wellbeing as they struggle to get to grips with this new life force who depends on them entirely. Although it is a magical time, it can equally be an isolating time as mums lives have changed, their social networks and priorities have changed, childbirth may have been traumatic and hormones are still trying to balance themselves out after pregnancy.

The postpartum period can last many years after the actual birth of your child. As a mum with a young child you will now be running after them, continuing to pick them up, perhaps struggling with feeding or tantrums, giving them a lot of your attention and you may also be back at work. Equally it can take a while for the body to recover its pre-pregnancy nutrient status, and hormones may still be unbalanced. So all this can continue to leave you tired, stressed and achy.

Massage may help to:

  • relieve stress hormones

  • reduce swelling, improve circulation, boost milk supply

  • providing a space for relaxation, rejuvenation and rest

  • relieve aches & pains from carrying, breastfeeding, lifting your baby

  • recover from birth - natural & C-section

  • Help with scar tissue recovery

  • cope with postnatal depression & anxiety

  • Help deal with miscarriage or loss of baby

  • Your energy can be dispersed after birth and with a small child so energetically we will aim to centre you back into your womb/Hara.

Treatment

Treatment can take place immediately postpartum, it is an excellent way to help you to recover and to feel supported in coping with the changes of being a mother. Massage in the first 6 weeks will be gentle focused on nurturing and nourishing.

I am happy to provide an ear and support for you if you wish to talk through any problems such as your labour and any anxieties/trauma around it, issues with feeding baby or toddler etc etc.

Please ensure you have space for the shiatsu mat if having treatment in your house, it is 140cm x 200cm

Dad

Massage can also be provided for dad helping him with neck and shoulder pain relief from carrying baby and to provide support for their changing role.

Can I bring my baby or toddler?

Yes, you can have your baby or toddler with you during the treatment, they can either lay next to you on the mat or in their carry cot or your toddler may play next to us. You know your child and how happy they will be in the room and how relaxed you can be. If you come to my studio I can provide a beanbag, baby playmat and some toys. But please note in my studio your child will need to stay in the same room we are in.

Feel free to feed your baby when you need to.
I will work around you and your needs to ensure you have the most relaxing, comfortable experience possible.

Please let me know in advance if baby or toddler will be coming with you.

Why on a shiatsu mat?

It means that as a pregnant woman you don't need to climb on and off a massage table, you can feel secure on the ground. We can also use a pregnancy ball to lean on and help to release your low back.

As a postpartum mum the floor can continue to support you, it is easier to lay on the floor than to climb onto a massage table if you are in pain, after for example a C-section, and if baby or toddler are present they can be next to you or close to you safely on the ground.

STONE MASSAGE

Energy and healing from the heart of mother earth.

The use of heated Basalt Lava stones creates a deep, warming meditative massage. One stroke with the stones is equivalent to 5x that of a hand. Cold stones are not always used. But can be used in the treatment to reduce inflammation. Both stones have a magnetic character, which re-organises the structure of the body's energy and polarizes imbalances within it. The simplicity of being still and the caring comfort of touch are important aids to the well-being often overlooked in our hectic lives. During massage, pent-up emotions and stress can be eased away as the muscles gently loosen and we relax.

This is a very relaxing treatment.

It is also suitable for postnatal mums.  In many cultures it is said that when a women gives birth her body looses a lot of its warmth and becomes cold and so needs its heat restored to replenish the new mother.

Benefits of hot stone massage can include: -

  • Deep relaxation, the warmth relaxes both physically and mentally

  • There is a deep comfort of receiving warmth on the body.

  • Stress is reduced, relieving mental and physical fatigue

  • Toxins and waste are eliminated

  • Circulation is improved and muscles have an increased blood supply, improving function

  • The warmth can relieve pain in muscles and joints

  • The heat from the stones is transferred to the body by conduction and it may reach up to 3cm into the muscle

  • Tension in connective tissue is decreased

Benefits of cold stone massage can include: -

  • Refreshes and stimulates the mind

  • Soothes irritation

  • Helps to relieve tissue congestion (such as the sinuses)

  • Cools down the body on a warm day or during hot flushes.

  • Alternating the hot and cool stones helps every cell in the body to receive more oxygen and nutrients and encourages a more effective removal of toxins.

  • The use of the therapist’s hands in conjunction with the stones also helps produce a more intensive treatment.

Treatments will be done on a massage couch.

THERMO AURICULAR THERAPY (Ear Candling)

A deeply relaxing treatment beginning and ending with a face massage.
The “candle” works by the warm air travelling through the tube generating a gentle massage effect, stimulating the acupressure points, and loosening any wax or debris. Its main aim is to improve the flow of energy to the ear. It also helps to regulate the pressure in the middle ear, gives the immune system a boost, and draws out any infection or fluid in the ear. The herbs used in the “candle” help to unblock the sinuses, soften any impurities and induce a feeling of calm. Many clients fall asleep and report a feeling of physical, mental and emotional relaxation.

The candles are made from pesticide-free untreated woven cotton; together with pure beeswax, honey, and herbal essences of sage, st. johns wort, and chamomile. Free from paraffin and other synthetic ingredients.

This clearing therapy may benefit conditions such as: -

  • Migraines

  • Sinus problems or colds

  • Reduces congestion

  • Excessive or compacted ear wax
